Congratulations to IU Astronomer Cristobal Petrovich, who has been elected as a member of the Governing Committee of the Division on Dynamical Astronomy (DDA) of the American Astronomical Society. The DDA supports the advancement of dynamical astronomy, including celestial mechanics, solar system dynamics, stellar dynamics, the dynamics of the interstellar medium, and galactic dynamics, and coordinates dynamical research with other branches of science. The Committee has overall charge of the affairs of the Division, including membership, annual meetings, and general activities. Cristobal will begin his three-year term on 1 July 2026, after the next meeting of the DDA in Chicago in June.
IU Astronomy is recognized as a growing center of dynamical research in astronomy, with a focus on the formation and evolution of exoplanet systems as well as on the dynamical evolution of massive star clusters. Many of our graduate and undergraduate students (as well as faculty!) contribute important research in these areas of dynamical astronomy and report their findings at DDA meetings. We’re excited to develop closer ties to the DDA. Way to go, Cristobal!
