What do the students think?
- "I am grateful that
I attended IU's REU program because it has given me
the chance to explore stellar astronomy in a way that I am unable to
at my
home institution. I feel that I have made significant advancements
in my
research experience. The highlight of my summer was the observing
experience on WIYN's 3.5 m telescope, which I enjoyed tremendously.
I hope to continue in astronomy by attending graduate school. An
additional benefit of participating in Indiana University's REU
program, was that it allowed me to learn more about graduate
studies." --Tala
- "Besides providing
hands-on experience in the collection, reduction,
and analysis of astronomical data, the REU program can also help one
decide if they should pursue astronomy into graduate school. I must
add that the observation run to WIYN at Kitt Peak was quite
enjoyable. Lastly, one is provided with an intellectually
stimulating occupation for the summer among colleagues of similar
interest." --Mark
- "I thought the
REU program at IU was a great experience. I got
to meet so many people in astronomy; so I finally know more
people than the ones in my own astronomy department. I also got
a better idea of what work in astronomy involves, and I enjoyed
doing this work. It was a great way to spend my summer, and
going to Kitt Peak was also a great." --Jeff
- "My experience this
summer as part of IU's first REU program was excellent. I had a
chance to participate in ongoing research related to cataclysmic
variables with R. K. Honeycutt. The best part about the program was
being able take part in observations done at the WIYN 0.9m telescope
at Kitt Peak, Arizona. This summer's experience has taken away any
doubt in my mind that I am following the right path by pursuing a
career in astronomy".--Luis
