2005 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates
Pending the availability of funds WHAT: REU in Stellar Astrophysics and Beyond WHERE: Department of Astronomy, Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana WHO: Current Sophomore and Junior Undergraduate Students who are United States citizens or permanent residents WHEN: The program will begin sometime between mid-May and mid-June, depending on mutual agreement between participant and advisor, and will last for 10 weeks TO APPLY: Apply online, PDF, Word or contact the following. REU Program DEADLINE: February 1, 2005 for applications, transcripts and letters of recommendation. STIPENDS: A summer stipend of $4800 ($480 per week). In adiition, students will be reimbursed for travel from their home or campus to Indiana University.
The Program The Astronomy Department at Indiana University Bloomington will host a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates program for highly motivated students interested in astronomy research. Students will work with faculty to carry out projects in observational stellar astronomy and other fields using ground-based photometric and spectroscopic data. Projects may include:
The program will include a trip to the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Tucson, AZ, where students will observe on the WIYN 0.9-m telescope and/or the WIYN 3.5-m telescopes as well as tour Kitt Peak and other Tucson astronomical facilities. While in residence in Bloomington, students will also participate in seminars, field trips, and social events. Print an REU poster to post at your department.
