Beginning on September 17, and scheduled several times during the semester, students will have the opportunity to participate in remote observing on the WIYN 0.9-m telescope at Kitt Peak in Arizona.
Remote observing is currently planned for the following dates. Some additional dates may be added during the semester if demand is high.
Wednesday, Sept. 17
Friday, Sept. 19
Sunday, Oct. 12
Monday, Oct. 13
Tuesday, Dec. 2
Wednesday, Dec. 3
To participate in remote observing, you must sign up in advance on the sign-up sheet in class. Attendance is limited to four students per group, and each group's sesson will last one half hour. If you need to cancel a scheduled remote observing session, you must do so by the beginning of the preceding class period to give another student a chance to sign up. When you sign up, be sure to pick up a remote observing worksheet. Participation in remote observing will earn class project points.
The remote observing activity will take place in Swain West 403 during the evening. To find Room 403, come up to the third floor of Swain West and find the stairway opposite room 321 up to the 4th floor. Room 403 is to the right at the 4th floor landing.
Students should take care walking on campus at night. Plan to walk with a friend, or contact the Campus Safety Escort Department at 855-SAFE for an escort or a ride.
